FSSAI Registration

To regulate the food safety and standards the government of India passed Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006 to manage science based standard for articles of food and manufacturing, storage, sales & distribution to ensure safe wholesome food for human consumption.

Further the government of India notified in gazette Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulation, 2011 and rules thereof.

The powers to regulate the Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006 and Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulation, 2011 are vests in Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. Of India.FSSAI issue many notifications time to time to prevent stakes of society and various stakeholders.

Food Business Operators i.e. wholesaler, retailer, supplier, Restaurant, Dhaba, Hotel, Canteen, Club or any other permisess engaged in food business.
Cottage Industries associated to a food products.
Vegetable Oil/ cooking oil processing units/ factory/ refineries also including oil expeller system.
Dairy, Milk Chilling Units, Milk collection, distribution units, dairy booth etc.
Milk related items producing units like Panner, Cheese, Mava factories etc.
Units involved in Meat processing, marketing, distribution activities.
Cold storage units, other food storage units.
Caterers involving in catering related services including catering services to Railways, Airlines, Airports, Defence, Seaports etc.
Every units involving in processing, production of food items to further Import/ export.
All food/ Masala, processing/ packaging & distributing units.

What Type of FSSAI License should required ?

Type of FSSAI License is merely depending on food operator’s business turnover, production capacity, type of activity and area of business.

FSSAI Basic Registration

When a food operator’s business is small-size, start-up and having their annual turnover upto Rs. 12 Lakh per annum they can get FSSAI Basic Registration.

If the business turn over is more than Rs. 12 Lakh and upto 20 Crore per annum this type of business should obtain FSSAI State License.

It is required when the Food Operators business having turn over above 20 Crore per annum and also required when the FOB’s supply the food to government offices and involving in import export of goods.

Validity of FSSAI License

FSSAI License validity is from 1 year to 5 year depending on type of FSSAI license. It must be renew 30 days before expiry date, delay in renew required to pay late fee @ Rs. 100 Per day for each day of delay.
